EXPERIENCE
New York Post | Oct 2021 - Present | New York City, NY
Senior Photo Editor
I work primarily with the news and features desks by supplementing any photos needed for the stories published on nypost.com. My day-to-day responsibilities include providing photos, composites and/or other visual elements for any breaking news or headlines dominating the news cycle. Working closely with producers and editors to strengthen the reporting with powerful images and composites that add to the storytelling.
DailyMail.com | Aug 2018 - Oct 2021 | New York City, NY
Associate Photo Editor
Led the photo desk regularly, made sure the news desk had everything needed to set stories live. Part of my duties included researching + retrieving photos as needed for stories published on dailymail.com; building composites, graphs, maps etc. to visually strengthen the storytelling; tracking and identifying compelling photos on wires and social media as news breaks and sorting through archives for additional needs; working with reporters to best highlight the stories through striking images and engaging composites
Southern Foodways Alliance | June 2017 – July 2017 | Oxford, MS
Documentary Intern
Produced a short documentary about a Taco shop located in Oxford, MS, run by Pedro Leyva, an immigrant from Mexico. The Taco Shop has been serving tacos to Oxford residents for almost 20 years at what is considered by a number of locals "the most integrated space" in this historic Southern city where values of Confederacy still hold strong, as evident from the Confederate flags, stickers and monuments visible inside and on the outskirts of the city.
My intention with the project was to explore the aspects of the Latino food culture and how it shaped families and communities in the region, the challenges of running a business rooted in the Mexican culture in a historic Southern city and whether food may be the one factor that bridges the gap between different cultures, especially in the current political divisiveness in the United States.
